What the signature badge shows

A 468 × 60 pixel image — the size forums have used for signature banners for two decades — with the reader's own public IP address, the city and country it geolocates to, the network that announces it (ISP or hosting provider, with its AS number) and the network type. The data comes from the same free datasets as the IP lookup: DB-IP Lite for location, iptoasn for the network.

Because the picture is drawn for whoever requests it, every reader of your post sees their own address. Nothing about you is in the image, and nothing is stored: the render is one request, answered with Cache-Control: private, no-store.

Installation

  1. Choose a theme, a size and the snippet format your platform expects: BBCode for phpBB, XenForo, vBulletin, MyBB and most classic forums; HTML for websites, e-mail signatures and profile pages that accept markup; Markdown for GitHub profiles, Discourse, Reddit wikis and documentation.
  2. Copy the snippet and paste it into your signature or profile. The image links back to this page so readers can check their own address in full.
  3. That is all. There is no account, no script and nothing to update — the badge keeps working as long as the forum allows external images.

Parameters

theme=dark (default) draws a slate card for dark forum skins, theme=light a white card. size=wide (default) is 468 × 60, size=compact is 300 × 60 for narrow signature columns. Example: https://ipcheckerpro.com/badge.png?theme=light&size=compact.

Limits and fair use

Renders are limited to 30 per minute per reader address, which is far more than a page of signatures needs. Hot-linking the image from pages that are not signatures or profiles is fine as long as the link back stays; if you need an unbranded or high-volume variant, write to us through the contact page.

Prefer a live widget?

On pages where scripts are allowed, the What's-my-IP widget renders the same data as text (copyable, accessible, themed) and updates in the reader's browser. For raw data there is the JSON API.

Questions people ask

Why does the badge show my IP and not the author's?

The image is generated for whoever loads it. A forum signature is viewed by many people, and each of them sees their own public address, location and network — that is the point of the classic "what is my IP" signature image. The author's data is never stored in the picture.

Will the forum cache the image and show one IP to everyone?

The response is sent with Cache-Control: private, no-store, so browsers and CDNs do not keep it. Forums that proxy images through their own cache (a few do) may show one render to several readers for a short while; use the direct URL where the forum allows it.

Does it track readers?

No cookies, no script. Rendering the badge is one request from the reader's browser; we count it in the anonymous usage statistics (hashed address, country, network) like any other check and keep nothing else.

Can I change the colours or size?

Two themes (dark, light) and two sizes (468×60 — the forum-signature standard — and 300×60) are available through the theme and size parameters. Pick them above and copy the snippet; nothing else is configurable, so the image stays small and fast.
